Velvet Royalty of the Rainforest
Straight from the lush cloud forests of Ecuador, Philodendron verrucosum is an icon among velvet-leaf aroids. Its striking heart-shaped foliage is deep green with a velvety sheen and glowing lime to copper veins that shimmer under light. But its most unique feature? The fuzzy, bristled petioles—a tactile and visual bonus that gives this plant its name, verrucosum, meaning "warty" or "textured" in Latin.
A climbing philodendron that thrives with support, it’s known for being a bit dramatic, but when you meet its needs, it rewards you with some of the most captivating foliage in the plant world.
At Tropical Green Nursery, our verrucosum plants are tissue-cultured and acclimated for a full three months, ensuring they're strong, rooted, and ready to grow.
Care Tips:
-
Light: Bright, indirect light. Avoid harsh sun to protect the velvet.
-
Humidity: High humidity (60–80%) is key.
-
Water: Water when the top layer begins to dry. Keep consistently moist, never soggy.
-
Support: Loves a moss pole or plank to climb.
-
Soil: Skip generic soil—use our Tropical Green Aroid Mix, specially blended for optimal drainage, aeration, and moisture retention for sensitive velvet species.
Velvety, vivid, and full of character—Philodendron verrucosum is a must-have for serious collectors.
